#cpd23 Thing 15: Conferences

This Thing makes me feel a great deal of envy. The Americans have so many conferences. The British, it seems, have even more.

Israelis? Not so much. There’s Teldan, which is ridiculously expensive if work isn’t paying your way. There are conferences from Mercaz HaSefer that are only open to member libraries. There are, once in a while, open day conferences sponsored by the different LIS programs, and there are a few meetings a year of I-FISH. None are open to student presentations, though.

I do go to the two conferences a year sponsored by my program and I’ve joined I-FISH.

I won’t always be a student. Some day I may even be able to present, and I know that public speaking is not my strong point. So I’m working on my self-presentation skills, both grammatical and physical, and reading up on presentation tools: Prezi, Power Point, video making. I may never be accepted to present at a conference, but if I am, I plan to be ready.

#cpd23 Things 6 & 7: When a global village is all the village you’ve got

Little known, but trufax: Israel is a resource-poor country. We don’t have oil. We don’t have much water. We even have to import our reality TV shows.

What we do have in abundance is protekzia. No, not the recombinant version of human butyrylcholinesterase. Not the cuspated drainage systems. I mean Vitamin P, networking to the extreme, Jewish Geography, cronyism, nepotism, “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” It’s the national sport.

A few real life examples:

1. My daughter-in-law’s sister got married last month. My son was in an Officer’s Training Course, the kind where they might give you a day off for a funeral — if you ask nicely and bring a death certificate. And if the death certificate is your own and you swear to be back in uniform at 0 dark 30 the next morning. But my son’s mother-in-law wanted Sonny Boy to attend the wedding. She called around, found a relative who had been Sonny’s commanding officer’s commanding officer (back in the day) and got Sonny a night off.

2. Before Sonny Boy and DIL were married, DIL’s mother wanted a certain woman to give DIL her mandatory pre-marital religion classes, but the woman was fully booked. Turns out the woman’s husband is my kissing cousin, and though we had never met before or knew of each other’s existence. I called in Family Chips and DIL got her lessons.

So you’d think Israel would be all up in real life networks, wouldn’t you?

Ha. There are only a few Israeli LIS organizations.

The big one should be ASMI, the Israeli Association of Libraries and Information Centers. If you visited that site, I apologize. It’s a hot mess (posts from 2008 sandich posts from 2009 and from this year). You’d think LIS professionals would know better. They do offer one year free membership to LIS students, but the only value the organization adds, aside from publicizing other organizations’ events, is their job board.  Since I’m not currently looking for a job and most of the posts are public anyway, I’ll hold off on joining until I am or the last year of library school, whichever comes first.

There’s also ICL, the Israeli Center for Libraries. Most of its training is most relevant to working public, academic, and school librarians. They host a relatively expensive yearly conference, with no student discounts.

The one real-life network I am involved with is IFISH, the Israeli Forum for Information Specialists in Hitech. Like the  Israeli network websites, the website is hopelessly out of date. Membership is free, the email list is very active and very helpful, and there are a few free meetings each year featuring new technologies and services for information professionals. It was due to protexia that I joined IFISH: I went to network with one librarian who happened to be heading to an IFISH meeting that afternoon. She offered to take me with her. I hung around her library all day. (Yay for telecommuting to my day job. On the internet no one knows you’re not in your office.) I tried to register for IFISH online before the meeting, but the webform wasn’t working. No problem — the 2 founders were my lecturers in Business Information and I had their email addresses. Zipped an email over to one of them, got a confirmation, and I was in. Next year I hope to be more active, if there are any volunteer opportunities in the network.

So where does that leave an Israeli LIS professional who wants to network? On line, of course.

On line, and alone.

There aren’t very many Israeli librarians in the online networks. As far as I can tell, I’m the only Israeli on LISNPN. There are a few other Israeli librarians in my Twitter stream, but they don’t network with each other, much less the outside world. I’m friends with a few on Facebook, but those are ones who are friends in real life, not just online, so I’m not sure they count; most of the time I didn’t know they were librarians when I friended them. I am making an effort to keep my Google+ more professional than personal, but it’s still a very quiet place.

Another place I’m beginning to network is over at Mendeley, where I’m a member of several groups which match my LIS interests. I may have to pull out of the site soon, though, once they decide on their policy about the Middle East peace talks. (Yes, I know. A research management tool shouldn’t really be defining political views, but if they allow one side in a territorial dispute the right to claim certain cities in the disputed area and don’t allow the other side to claim other cities as a policy decision, well…. It’s been nearly two weeks since I asked for the right to list either my hometown or the town in which I’m a library volunteer and I’ve been told they need to have a board meeting about it. If I want to claim the nearest Arab city as my hometown, though, it’s ready and waiting for me.)

LinkedIn lives almost entirely separate from my LIS persona. I don’t find the connections or the CV capacities very helpful, but the groups are amazing, particularly in the area in which the corporation I’m currently doing information work for is involved. Where else would I be, within a week, on a chatting basis with the CEOs of potential partner firms?

And now a note for Israeli LIS professionals.

#libday7 Day 1: Cataloging the Blues

I wear three different LIS hats. At work I’m the information officer for a boutique investment firm, currently seconded to a tech start-up in the field of 3D displays. On the weekends I’m a volunteer in a small community library. And during the school year I’m a student in a post-grad LIS program.

My library week starts with my volunteer cataloging work.  I work on administrative mornings (meaning we’re supposedly not open to the public), and our library isn’t the sort that people casually stroll into.

No, the whole building is not the library. We’re up two flights of stairs, in the back of the building.

Yet somehow this is how the library looks on a day it’s closed:

In addition, though we are not open, we had a reading club come for a tour of the library, and our head librarian gameified their visit with a treasure hunt amongst the shelves.

But I wasn’t there to take pictures. What did I go to the library for again? Oh, yeah:

What do you mean I’m not here for the tea? Oh, right. Music library cataloging. I was hoping you’d forget…

Step 1:  Gather discs from the cabinet, push uncatalogued returns out of my work space

Step 2:  Log into cataloging system. Hello, Agron! Hate you so much! You’re so wonderfully flexible (not)!

Step 3:  No matter what they teach you in cataloging class, the disc, wrapper, and booklet are not sufficient sources of information.

When the resources which come with the disc fail me, my first stop is MUSIClassical. Most of what’s missing is the first names of composers, and the website has most that I’ve needed. When all else fails, Google steps in.

Step 4:  Type, rinse, repeat.

Due to the way the printer is set up, as well as the way Agron handles printing (as far as I can tell, an early version of Word’s merge function), we have to print up labels 24 at a time, no more and no less.

Step 5:  Prepare the barcodes.

Have I mentioned how much I hate Agron? If I made a mistake in counting and have an extra CD cataloged, it’s a PITA to extract that item during the next cataloging session and add it to the new discs awaiting barcodes. I have to clear out the temporary database, manually input all the item numbers one by one, and then print the new temporary database onto stickers. At least at the end of it I get a little play therapy.

CPD23 Thing 5: The non-retro-reflective edition

Things I did instead of writing about reflective practice:

1. Read a lot about reflective practice.

2. Knit a pair of yoga socks.

3. Updated our corporate blog.

4. Updated statistics for marketing projections.5. Watered my newly poured patio three times a day.

6. Followed many, many links from lemurph‘s post on Thing 4.

7. Hung out with my daughters.

8. Went to a Yemenite henna ceremony.

9. Pic-spammed a huge huge post for my fangirlz. (And no, no link. Linking between my fandom and my professional life is just what I’m trying to avoid in my branding!)10. Played with my cat.

11. Realized that I’m avoiding the issue.

My sign is “keep out”

I.

Am.

Not.

Reflective.

I’m a preparer. I read and plan a lot before I do anything, including getting out of bed. I’m the geeky student who’s done all the required and recommended reading three days after the syllabus was released. I’m the one who keeps her inbox down to zero and her RSS feeds all read. Before I volunteered to catalog a music collection I read books and websites about music cataloging. And there it ends.

I plan, I do, I move on. If I’m going to do something again I may analyze what went right and what went wrong, but it’s not so much reflection as it is preparing for the next volley. In the world of information seeking behavior I’m less Ellis* than I am Bates**. (Incidentally — raspberries? Best thing evah. Mulberries? Ditto.)

שאלה מסכמת בנושא ספריית ווב 2.0 חלק א’: מבוא וווב 2.0 למטרות עבודה בצוות

1. קראו את המצגת הרלוונטית, ועל סמך  המצגת  ובעיקר ההתנסות שלכם עם היישומים השונים כתבו אלו  יישומים הייתם בוחרים לספרייה שלכם (מציאותית או דמיונית)  ומדוע. רצוי לצרף סקירת ספרות  קצרה  מאמר אחד לפחות  או מספר מאמרים שמתייחסים לנושא ומבססים את הדברים שלכם.

אני לא חושבת שאפשר לענות איזה יישומים הייתי משתמשת בהם בלי להגדיר, קודם, איזה תועלת אני רוצה להפיק. האמת, בעולם של משאבים בלתי נגמרים הייתי משתמשת בכולם!

בקורס למדנו על בלוגים (כולל RSS וקוראי RSS), אתרי סימניות חברתיות, פודקאסטים, פייסבוק, טוויטר. יש עוד הרבה שלא הספקנו ללמוד, כמו ויקיים, פורסקוור, יאמר, קוורא, גוגל דוקס, וכד’.

 הבסיס האידיולוגי לווב 2.0 היא שיתופיות. אני רואה 3 מטרות עיקריות בשיתופיות בספרייה:

• עבודה בצוות (חלק א’)
• שיווק (חלק ב’)
• “השתלמות” בלתי-פורמלי (חלק ג’)

עבודה בצוות

לפי Preece  הIAB (אירגון יח”צ באינטרנט באנגליה), הכריזה על 2011 כשנת הרשתות חברתיות (SNS) כפלטפורמה לשיתוף אירגוני. המודעות לשימוש בבלוגים, צ’טים, ורשתות אחרות גוברת. אפילו בעבודה שלי, שלמרות שהיא סטרט-אפ טכנולוגי לא התברכה במוחות אינטרנטיות, אנחנו משתמשים בבלוג, גוגל דוקס, לינקד-אין ופודקאסטים.

אם היינו פותחים את המאגרים שלנו לציבור הרחב, הייתי מוסיפה גם אתר סימניות, כדי שכל אחד באירגון היה יכול להוסיף למידע הזמין. אבל כרגע אין המאגרים פתוחים לקהל הרחב, ובקושי למטרות פנים אירגוניים — אנחנו לרוב עדיין בעידן של “אם אתה צריך מידע, שאל את המידענית” כך שכל המידע שמור רק אצלי.

בספרייה הייתי משתמשת, למטרות עבודה שיתופית, בכל הכלים שאנחנו משתמשים בהם בעבודה שלי, פלוס חבילת RSS לבלוגים ואתרים חיוניים, טוויטר לעדכונים בזמן אמת, וויקי בצמוד לגוגל דוקס לבניית חומרים, מסמכים, וטפסים.

שאלה מסכמת בנושא ספריית ווב 2.0 חלק ג’: ווב 2.0 למטרות השתלמות בלתי-פורמלי (CPD in Hebrew)

עולם הספרנות בארץ קטנה מאד, והאפשרויות להשתלמויות בהתאם. יש ימי עיון בכל פקולטה לספרנות, יש פורום I-FISH, יש כנס טלדן. יש את מרכז ההדרכה לספריות  ואס”י/אסמ”י. אבל למרות שהמדינה שלנו קטנה אנשים לא רוצים לנסוע מדן ועד אילת לעבור השתלמויות, וחלק מהכנסים הם יקרים מאד.

יש עולם גדול בחוץ, ואנחנו ספרנים. בטח שיש השתלמויות פרומליות ובלתי-פורמליות בווב 2.0, נכון? בטח שיש! אז נו, הם אולי לא יעזרו בקידום בעבודה (אבל אולי כן), והם לא בעברית (רוב העולם, מסתבר, לא דובר עברית), אבל הם בחינם והם נגישים והם יעזרו לספרן להתפתח ברמת המקצועות שלו, הן בספרנות והן בטכנולוגיה.

אני פריקית של השתלמויות בווב 2.0. כבר סיימתי כמה קורסים של ווב ג’נקשון, ואעשה עוד קורס הקיץ על העזרה שספרנים יכולים להגיש ליזמים. גם השתתפתי בוובינרים מOCLC, במיוחד על קיטלוג (אני מתנדבת, הקיץ, כמקטלגת של אוסף מוזיקה בספריה של קרני שומרון).

אבל הדבר שאני חושבת שהכי יתרום לי כספרנית ושאני ממליצה עליו בחום לכל ספרן וסטודנט לספרנות זו תוכניות 23 דברים. פחות או יותר הם הקורס שאנחנו עשינו, “טכלונוגיות מידע מתקדמות”, רק בלי ציונים ועם המון, המון, המון עידוד של המשתתפים. הגרסה שבה אני משתתפת היא CPD23, ויש בה יותר מ600 משתתפים מכל העולם. לא רק שאנחנו לומדים עוד יישומי ווב 2.0, אנחנו לומדים הרבה מקריאת הבלוגים אחד של השני ויוצרים  community of practice דרך ציוצים .

המחבר טוען שהגיע הזמן לעבור בספריות מקריאה בפעילות של היחיד לקריאה של פעילות ציבורית, בעקבות השינויים בהגדרה של פרטיות בעדן רשתות חברתיות.

Individual library behaviors will continue to be strictly off-limits to governments, and to any other organization that the user has not explicitly authorized.

Individuals will have access to information about their own library behaviors, and libraries will preserve this information by default, unless the individual requests that it not be saved.

The library will permit a user’s social network to access that user’s information to the extent to which the individual authorizes it, while informing the user of the risks.

פייסבוק שאלה 9

9. מהחשבון האישי – הפרופיל שלך בפייסבוק הזמן חברים. האם החברים יהיו גם חברים לדף הספרייה שפתחת. דווח על כך בבלוג האישי

בפייסבוק יש לי 186 חברים, ויש לי כללים די נוקשים לבחירת חברים.

1. הם חייבים להיות אנשים שאני מכירה ממקום אחר, חוץ מפייסבוק — על אמת, מהבלוגים שלהם, או מרשימות תפוצה במייל. אני לא מאשרת חברות לאנשים שאין לי איתם קשר כלשהו חוץ מפייסבוק .

2. הם חייבים להיות בני גילי. אני אאשר בקשת חברות מאנשים 15 שנה מתחתי ומטה, אבל אני לא אאזום חברות. ראיתי יותר מדי אנשים בגילי שעשו לעצמם פאדיחות כי הם חשבו שהם בני 20 בפייסבוק.

אני לא מוסיפה חברים אוטומטי דרך מיזוג של חבשונות המייל שלי. יש חברים שאני מעדיפה להיות איתם בקשר דרך פייסבוק, כמו נכדים של ידידים והצעירים של הישוב שלי (ככה אני יכולה לסנן את השטויות שלהם מהפייד שלי), אלה שאני מעדיפה להיות איתם בקשר דרך טוויטר (אלה ששולחים קישוריות מעניינות כמה פעמים ביום, במיוחד אלה שאני מכירה מעולם הספרנות), אלה שאני מעדיפה במייל (חברות שאני שופכת להם את הלב), ואלה שאני מעדיפה להיות חברה שלהם בלייב ז’ורנל (קרציות שכותבות סיפורים יפים, אבל לא הייתי רוצה שהם ידעו את השם האמיתי שלי).

תמיד מעניין אןתי המשחק של “גיאוגרפיה יהודית” שאפשר לשחק בפייסבוק עם השמות המומלצים לחברות, כמו מישהו שיש לי איתו 10 חברים במשותף — 9 מהתיכון בניו יורק ואחד (במקור ממיניאפוליס) מהעבודה. מה הקשר?  או אחד שהמשותף בינו לביני זאת אחת שהכרתי דרך בעלי, החבר שלי מהאוניברסיטה, ידידה מהיסודי, 2 מהתיכון, בחור שלמד בישיבה אצלנו בישוב והיה אצלי בן-בית, ואחד מגינות שומרון שקראתי במשך שנים את הבלוג שלו ואח”כ היכרתי על אמת. איך כל קצות החיים שלי מתמזגות אצל מישהו אחר, אחד שאני בכלל לא מכירה? עולם היהודי קטן מאד.

מתוך החברים שלי יש נתח די גדול שהייתי מזמינה לעשות לייק בדף של הספרייה. אני גרה כ30 דקות מקרני שומרון, והרבה מהותיקים של שכונת נוה עליזה הם ידידים שלי, ידידים של בעלי ז”ל או של הילדים שלי (ויש רפריזנטציה טובה של כולם בין החברים שלי בפייסבוק). גם הייתי מבקשת מכל אלו החברים לבקש מהחברים שלהם הגרים בקרני שומרון לעשות לייק לספרייה וממנהלת הספרייה (טלי פונטוביץ’ מהקורס שלנו) להביא את דף הספרייה לתשומת לב חברי הפייסבוק שלה.

פייסבוק שאלה 12

12. לאור ההתנסות שלך בפייסבוק  הסבר  כיצד בפייסבוק  מיושמת היטב  האסטרטגיה בה מבקשים ספריות לנקוט היום:  “אם המשתמש לא בא אל הספרייה הבא את הספרייה אל המשתמש” .

אני הולכת לכתוב משהו בכיוון האפיקורסות, ואולי משהו קצת סקיצופרני: אני חושבת שהאסטרטגיה שציינת היא שגויה. מאד שגויה.

קחי בחשבון ממי זה מגיע: רוב החיים שלי מתנהלים באון-ליין. אני עובדת מרחוק דרך המחשב. מדברת עם השכנים שלי דרך אי-מייל, פייסבוק, וטוויטר. לוקחת 2/5 מהקורסים שלי במתוקשב. הדבר הראשון שאני עושה בבוקר, לפני שאני מרכיבה משקפיים, זה לבדוק ג’י-מייל, והדבר האחרון לפי קריעת שמע זה לקרוא ebook.

יש שירותים שאני מודה שמשתלבים טוב באינטרנט — הערכת ספרים, יעץ קל. לא חייבים סינכרון בין הספרן ללקוח, ואין צורך לספק את השירותים בשעות עומס, למשל.  מצד שני, יש שירותים שהם לא כל כך יעילים במתוקשב — הדרכה, למשל.  ויש לי חשש שאנחנו, דור המחשבים ממעמד הבינוני + נסחפים בזרם ה”ספרייה 2.0″ ושוכחים מה כל כך חשוב בספרייה 1.0.

“אם המשתמש לא בא אל הספרייה הבא את הספרייה אל המשתמש”. ונעשה את זה דרך בלוגים וקטלוג מכוון וטוויטר וebooks ופודקאסטים ושאר ירקות. יופי. בספרייה האקדמית? מעולה. בספרייה של חברה? פרפקט. בספרייה של בית חולים, איפה שחולים שוכבים במיטות והמשפחות עסוקות איתם?  כשיש גישה מוגבלת לרשת, או שהגישה בתשלום, או שהיא נמצאת רק במקומות מסויימים בבניין?  יפה, כבוד הרופא, שאתה אומר לי “תבדקי באינטרנט ותמצאי הרבה חומר על המחלה של בעלך.” אולי במקום זה תעזור לי ליצור קשר עם הספרן של בית החולים ושהספרן יביא לי כמה כתבות או תמצית ממה שהוא מצא באינטרנט? אתם באמת חושבים שעכשיו יש לי זמן לשיטוטים וחיפושים? וספרייה ציבורית — לאיזה חלק מהקהל יש גישה למחשבים, לאינטרנט, וידע מספיקה להרוויח מהנוכחות של הספרייה ברשתות חברתיות?

לאחרונה הייתה הרבה דיבורים על העתיד של הספרייה — סט’ גודין, קרן קוייל, וקולות חדשים כמו לי-אן וראבל. ומכל הקולות עולה החשש שאנחנו לא יודעים איך לשלב הספרייה כפי שהיא תמיד הייתה והמשחקים החדשים שלנו.  ואני חושבת — אם אנחנו לא מבקשים מהלקוחות להגיע עלינו, למה לנו בניינים ותחזוקה ומשכורות? למה שלא נסגור את הבאסטה, נלמד לכמה הודים ממומבאי עברית, ושהם יטפלו בחשבונות של הספרייה ברשת/יתנו שירותי יעץ?

אז מה אני מנסה להגיד — שאין מקום לרשתות חברתיות בספרייה? ברור שלא. לדעתי, אין כמעט אמצעי פסולה במאבק שלנו לתשובת לב הלקוח. אבל אני כן חושבת שהאסטרטגיה חייבת להיות  “אם המשתמש לא שם לב לפרסומות של הספרייה הבא את הפרסומות אל המשתמש.”

בטמבלר בא נשים תמונות של ספרים חדשים שנרכשנו, עם לינק שהלקוח יזמין את הספר — ויבוא לקחת.

נזכיר בטוויטר דברים שקורים בספרייה, ואפילו נעשה לייב-טוויטינג’, שיראו כמה כיף הם מפסידים אם הם לא מגיעים לאירועים שלנו.

בפורסקוור בו ניתן באדג’ים לאילו שמגיעים לספרייה בתדירות.

בבלוג, בא נעלה טעימות של שלל הדברים החדשים שאנחנו מציעים — ספרים, מוסיקה, הרצאות. למה לא לשים עוד פוקוס על האוסף ונחדד את התיאבון ליותר מידע בזה שמזכירים למשתמש שתמיד, תמיד, יש לנו עוד מה להציע לו, בכל נושא שירצה?

בא נשתמש בפודקאסטים ווידקאסטים לבנות קהילה. נראיין משתמשים, במיוחד עלה שמשתמשים כבדים של רשתות חברתיות, והם יעלו לינק לקאסט, וככה הספרייה יפיץ את עצמה באופן וויראלי.

בפייסבוק, בא נעלה קישוריות לחדשות — עם ההקשר לספרייה שלנו. וודיאוים מויטויב, ואיזכור שהספר שממנו נסרט הסרט, המוסיקה מאחורי הוויד, נמצאים אצלנו למי שרק יגש ויקח.

הרשתות החברתיות, לדעתי, חייבים להיות תחליף לפרסומת ולא תחליף לספרייה.

ואחרי כל ההקדמה המתישה הזאת, כמה ספריות שעושות את זה נכון בפייסבוק ולמה:

ספרייה אזורית קולומבוס: שאלות יעץ, אירועים בקרוב, ביקורת על ספרים שיש בספרייה, בקשות מקוראים לרכש, איגוד של פוסטים מיישומי ווב 2.0 (בלוגים, טוייטר), תמונות, סרטי הדרכה לשימוש בספרייה, ועוד. יש תחושה שהם עובדים קשה לבנות קהילה לספרייה הכוללת גם צוות וגם קוראים.

ספרייה לאומית, ישראל: חדשות הספרייה, שאלות ותשובות, דיונים, והמלצות קוראים לספרים הנמצאים באוסף. רק חבל שיש דפים נפדרים לעברית ולאנגלית, וכל אחד עם תוכן אחר, כך שמי שרוצה תמונה שלמה חייב לקרוא את שתי הדפים.

הספרייה הציבורית סיאטל: דיונים על ספרים באוסף, תזכורות על שירותים בניתנים מרחוק עם כרטיס קורא, קבוצות קריאה, שירותי יעץ, שאלות טכניות וביקושי רכש לספרנים, תמונות מאירועים. בונים פה קהילה, אבל עם הדגש חזק על הגעה לסניפי הספרייה.

ספריית קוונס קולג’ אוקספורד: מידע על רכש, שינויים בשעות, דברים יוצאי דופן שקורים בספרייה (הסרטה של סרט בוליוודי, למשל), שירותי און-ליין למשתמשי בספרייה, גישה לוורלדקט וסייט מי. חבל שאין יותר מעורבות מצד הקורים.

ספריית אונ’ של מרכז פלורידה: הרבה מעורבות של קוראים. אין הרבה מידע על הספרייה עצמה, אבל הדף יוצר רושם שהספרייה היא מקום קולית להיות בו, ושזה מקום שבו ניתן לצמוא את החברה’.

ספריית עיריית נוי יורק: מידע על אירועים, הנחות למשתמשים של פייסבוק, תחרויות מיוחדת, מידע על האפליקציה של הספרייה, קישורים לאתר של הספרייה, ותמונות, וידיאוים, מידע והשראה לספרנים מספריות אחרות, לינקים לרשתות חברתיות אחרות, לייבסטרים של אירועים, וורלדקט ועוד.

כל הספריות האלו בונים קהילה דרך הכלים של פייסבוק וגם מנסים לעשות את הספרייה עצמה — המבנה הפיזי — אטרקטיבי למשתמשים כדי לעודד ביקורים ושימוש.  השבת קראתי ספר על הספרייה הציבורית במאה ה21*, ושם כתוב (דף 115) שקיימת חשש שהצעירים המובילים טרנדים לא משתמשים בספריות ולא מושכים איתם הצעירים שעוקבים אחרי טרנדים, וכמה חבל זה, כי משתמשים צעירים ונהלבים הם קצובה שמוכנה וזמינה להיות אקטיביסטים למען ספריות. נראה לי שזה השימוש הכי חשוב שספריות יכולות לעשות ברשתות החברתיות — להגיע ליוצרי דעות צעירים איפה שהם נמצאים ולהפוך אותם לאוהדי הספרייה.

הספרייה שהוספתי היא הספרייה למדעי הברעאות באונב’ נואט’ דקוטה

יש הרבה לינקים בנושא בריאות, כפי שהיה אפשר לצפות, אבל גם יש כל הלינקים הצפויים מספרייה אקדמי — איך לערוך מחקר, כתבי עת, זכויות יוצרים. גם יש לינקים שישרתו את הסגל האקמי בנושא נסיעות, זיופים במערכת כתבי עת, וכד’.  הארגון של הבאנדלס הגוני וקל לננוט. הרשימה די עדכני (הלינק האחרון הוסף ב ינואר 2011), אבל לא מציפים את המשתמש במידע — מוסיפים מספר מצומצם של לינקים כל כמה חודשים.

לא ברור, אבל, למי מיועד הרשימה. המשתמש הקצה לא בולט כמו, נגיד ברשימת delicious של ספריית סן מטאיו, איפה שהבאנדלס הם לפי מספרי דואיי — כך שאפשר לנחש שהיעוד הוא ספרנים. פה, התגים נראים ידידותיים לסטודנטים ולסגל האקדמי, אבל אין שום קישור לרשימה מאתר הספרייה. (למרות זאת, האתר של הספרייה יפה מאד, נקי מאד, ומלא מלא בתוכן. אתר זה נכנס לי לרשימה בdelicious).
